Queer Shorts: House for Sale (Eisha Marjara, 2012)

A stranger posing as a home buyer shows up at a suburban house that is up for sale. As the owner's wife gives a tour, the stranger recalls a memorable night when a fatal promise by the owner was made.

CultureQueer Supercut of Ragtag Collective

Ragtag Collective's Interactive theatre experience at Eastern Bloc transported audiences back to the balmy summer night of the 1990 Sex Garage raid. I was immersed in the sounds and sweat of that momentous night through an assemblage of large-scale projections, music, and video installations on retro TV sets, and most importantly, oral histories documenting the queer history of Montreal. For a moment, QUEERasure blurred the line between past and present, inviting us to imagine queerer futures.

————————————————

An homage to one of MTL's greatest Black drag queens, Sheena Hershey/Brian Charbonneau. She is remembered for co-starring in Zaid Touma's Saved By the Belles (2003)

Queer TV: The First Gays on Québec TV

Le Paradis Terrestre, a Radio-Canad teleroman from the early 1970s, was the first TV programme in Québec to (progressively) feature two gay men holding hands in an apartment elevator. The series was cancelled shortly after this ground-breaking season.

Queer Shorts: A Chairy Tale (Norman MacLaren & Claude Jutra, 1957)

An ordinary-looking chair refuses to bottom (first).

Queer TV: Féminin/Féminin (Chloé Robichaud, 2014-18)

Girls meets The L Word à MTL (with some token Black & Brown queers)

Queer TV: Cover Girl (Richard Blaimert, 2005-7)

Queer Performance: Elle Barbara's Black Space TV Special (2021)

Elle Barbara is a Montreal-based avant-garde singer-songwriter, multidisciplinary artist and performer, whose musical output alternately combines elements of sophisti-pop, psychedelia and underground. Elle Barbara's Black Space is a concept group that boasts excellence in the likes of Markus L. Lake and Mitch D. Holtby, and aims to challenge anti-black tropes ever present in numerous spaces.
